Sleepless For Our Community 2026

This past Friday night, our community came together for Sleepless For Our Community with United Way Halton and Hamilton. It marked Distress Centre Halton’s 5th year participating in this meaningful and powerful event.
This year, members of the DCH community slept in their cars overnight to raise awareness of the harsh realities of poverty and to help generate vital funds for programs across our region, including Distress Centre Halton. These funds help sustain 124 United Way supported programs that are there for people when they need it most.
While the experience can be emotional and eye-opening, what stayed with us most was the compassion and solidarity shown by our community. People willingly gave up warm homes and comfortable beds to better understand what so many face every single day. That kind of care matters.
At DCH, we often say: “Empathy is walking a mile in someone else’s shoes; sympathy is feeling sorry their feet hurt.”
Thank you to everyone who chose to put on those shoes and stand alongside our community.
